On Saturday night Brandon told me that Colin and Sarah had broken down and needed us to come get them. "They are somewhere around Nephi" he says. So we go, and I am thinking it is kinda weird that they called us. I get a call on the drive from Colin saying that the tow truck towed them to Manti (which is a little over an hour drive away from our house). Little did I know Brandon had a surprise for me to stay at an old inn in Manti for our anniversary! It was awesome! Instead of picking up the Farmers, he said "how about we just stay here tonight"? I was so excited!
The rooms are themed, and reminded me of our honeymoon. This is the view looking up from the bed. That night had lightning and thunder so it was a great view! I loved it!
The old (I mean, white hair 90 years old...old) lady kept kissing Brandon and was just adorable. The house was filled with history and her "maid to mistress" story was adorable!
The weekend was awesome because it was cooler but not cold. A very nice break from the heat the week before back home. The clouds around the temple were like right out of a painting! Look how amazing. I seriously got 100 pictures of the temple. It was hard to choose just a couple.
Its amazing to think of the pioneers building this building way back then. Just breathtaking!
The little old lady ruined a couple of Brandon's surprises for me (on accident) and told me we were going on a carriage ride too early. I was excited either way! The driver knew so much history about the temple and the buildings! It was perfect weather, and just such a fun experience!
One story that was my favorite: When the pioneers arrived in Manti, they decided they would get going and surprise Brigham Young by beginning work on a temple! I can just imagine themselves thinking "we are so awesome! Were going to be so far along on this temple and Brigham is going to be so happy". When president Young got wind of their temple he quickly traveled down to break some bad news. He had already been told that the temple was to be built on a hill so their temple was not going to be one after all. As you can imagine the townspeople were a little frustrated by the news their hard work was for nothing! President Young said to his counselor that even if no one else but the two of them show up for the dedication of the land for the correct temple sight the next morning, they are still proceeding. Fortunately the whole town attended and things worked out fine. The old temple was made into than fanciest looking stake center pictured below! I have never seen a church building say "Holiness to the Lord" on it!
Brandon also found this Legion hall (retired military bar house) made out of old Lutheran church. The carriage guide lady said the Lutheran church realized "even an ex-Mormon is still a Mormon" and they sold the church and left.
That was our 7 year wedding anniversary, and in November we will have been together for 10 years! I am so thankful for Brandon and look forward to more fun anniversaries!
